Truth Social to break up with ‘tech giants’, says Devin Nunes

Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes, who previously served as a Republican lawmaker, is providing a big update on Donald Trump’s social media platform.

During an interview on Fox News, Nunes spoke to host Maria Bartiromo about cracking down on the tyranny of Big Tech by restoring free speech with Truth Social.

“We cannot use ‘tech giants’ because we do not want to shut down”

During his interview, Devin Nunes said they cannot use any of the ‘tech giants on Truth Social because they do not want to be in a position to be shut down.

“At Truth Social, we cannot use any of the ‘tech giants’ because we don’t want to be in a position to be shut down,” Nunes said. “So now as we move forward, you know, we launched on the Apple App Store first. We just [launched] this week: TruthSocial.com, anyone can sign up on any device and get an account.”

Bartiromo asked Nunes about a Republican-led bill that is currently being floated in Congress that would break up Google’s monopoly on online advertising. The “Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act” would level the playing field for companies with more than $20 billion in digital ad revenue, effectively breaking Google’s stranglehold on Alphabet Inc.

According to a news release from Utah Republican Mike Lee’s office, the Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act would “restore and protect competition in digital advertising by eliminating conflicts of interest that have allowed the market’s leading platforms to manipulate ad auctions and impose monopoly rents on a broad swath of the American economy.”

“I think what I really see is a lack of willingness by DOJ to actually bring these anti-trust cases against these companies.” -Nunes commented on the bill.

He also noted that they do not want to “be beholden to Google” in order to generate ad revenue.

“People are coming in droves” to join Truth Social

Earlier this year, sometime around the launch of the social media platform, Nunes said that people are flocking over to join Truth Social and promised that the team is working hard to get everyone registered on the platform. He said that Truth Social is getting more engagement as compared to “big tech tyrants” like Facebook and Twitter.

“People are coming in droves. They continue to sign up. We continue to let them on as quickly as we possibly can,” Nunes said. “Our team is working around the clock, they continue to work around the clock, we continue to let more and more people on every single hour,” he added.

According to Nunes, the levels of enthusiasm among the users and the rate at which people are signing up on the platform is “amazing”, and that is only because the users “like the vibe on our platform.” He added, “Not only do we have real users that are real people, but we also don’t have what you see on the other platforms – and that is bots running around everywhere,” he said.

“You’re not going to want to go back to those old social media companies,” -Nunes said, adding, “Our team is working literally around the clock 24/7,” Nunes said. “And as we grow and as we add people, we squash bugs, we’re making changes right. Matter of fact, we should have another in the next day or two another Apple update.”

“Also we’re doing—it’s not perfect—but we’re doing everything we can to keep the platform clean, and to keep off all the nasty bots and the people that aren’t really real people,” he added.
