Former President Donald Trump was banned from Twitter after alleged incitement of violence on his Twitter account regarding the 6th January 2021 U.S. Capitol attack. Before the company permanently banned Donald Trump’s Twitter account, Twitter had previously temporarily suspended Trump’s tweets for violating its policies on civic integrity and violence.
The company claims to say that they had warned the former President that if he kept violating their policies they would be forced to ban him. Though Trump has stated in an interview that even if his ban was lifted he would stay on Truth Social, it currently looks like the former president will return back to Twitter if Elon Musk acquires it.” I am not going back to Twitter. I am going to stay on Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth” Trump said in an interview.
Trump is obligated to first post to Truth Social, a new social network he’s backing, and can’t publish the same content on another social media site for six hours. After that, he can post on “any site to which he has access.” Trump is still free to post from a personal account about political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the-vote efforts on any platform at any time, the filing added, which could give him leeway in case he runs for office in 2024.
Musk had previously said that it was a very stupid decision to ban the former President and if he is successful in acquiring Twitter he will reinstate the former president’s account. Trump may soon be able to post on Twitter again if Elon Musk ultimately completes his $44 billion purchase of the platform. However, even if the former president starts reposting on Twitter, Truth Social will remain his primary focus.
