It would be very interesting to know who would come up with the worst strike on LGBTQ people among Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Mike Pence.
Former President Donald Trump, who still holds a good place and a stiff hold on the Republican Party, has announced his candidacy. More than eighty percent of Republicans who are registered look at the former president favorably, a formidable hurdle to any challenger.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis seems more than prepared to challenge Donald Trump, looking up support from other big contributors who might have been fed up with Trump’s agenda and antics. Former Vice President Mike Pence is also willing to run against his former boss, despite knowing that his chances are completely zero.
The three candidates will fight against each other with the same motive: conservative evangelicals. As the three candidates are running against each other, they will back out all the stops without any doubt. They will bring out a terrifying history to the primary season.
When Donald Trump ran for the Presidential race in 2016, he didn’t seem to have the resentment towards LGBTQ people as his other Republican colleagues did. All politics are debatable for Donald Trump, and he used to be happy if appointing homophobic and anti-trans judges to the federal Judiciary made his evangelical supporters. But at the same time, he also cracked a joke about how his former vice president wanted to execute all the gays.
Trump has been using ferocious language to attack LGBTQ people at his rallies. He has railed against “the sickos who are pushing sexual content in kindergartens or providing puberty blockers to young children.”
Trump said at one rally in July that “Let’s just say they’re not good – are not just engaged in acts of depravity in many cases, they are breaking the law, and they should be held fully accountable.” He also condemned trans athletes as “disrespectful to women.”
Ron DeSantis has also attacked LGBTQ. Florida’s Don’t Say Gay law is proof of the “anti-woke” (to say anything about anti-First Amendment) philosophy DeSantis is using to plead with the GOP voters. He has deployed the most rhetoric to his press secretary. At the same time, DeSantis got the extra points with the religious rights for using the government to penalize long-time nemesis, Disney for its resistance to the law.
DeSantis said in a conversation with Hillsdale College, “You will face flaming arrows, but if you have the shield of faith, you will overcome them, and in Florida, we walk the line here, And I can tell you this, I have only begun to fight.”
Ron DeSantis, who might never be appreciated for his humility, ran an ad proclaiming support from God himself. He also said that God made him a fighter.
Mike Pence, the former vice president of the U.S., hallowed Trump for being apostolic. His conservative religious credentials are flawless. He described himself as “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.” in his stump speech.
Pence brought a rich anti-LGBTQ track record to the White House as a Congressman and governor of Indiana. He also enlarged that record when Trump was holding the post of president; he was the primary force behind the administration’s ban on trans military personnel. Besides, he was also best at getting religious conservatives scheduled to key conservative positions where they could mold the policies.
This race might be unpredictable at that point, and targeting LGBTQ people will be everyone’s campaign motive.
