Billionaire Elon Musk will support DeSantis if the Florida Governor runs for the presidential election. Earlier this month, DeSantis won a second term, defeating his Democratic opponent Charlie Crist by almost 20 percentage points to be re-elected. He presented himself as the Republican Party’s top rising star.
Among the Republicans, Ron DeSantis is currently seen as a potential contender to former president Donald Trump. Trump has recently announced that he will run for the 2024 presidential election.
Elon Musk said on Twitter, “My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far.”
Elon Musk was asked if he would endorse Ron DeSantis in the presidential election of 2024. He said, “As a reminder, I was a significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump.” In June, Musk had said that Florida governor Ron DeSantis would effortlessly defeat Biden in the presidential election.
DeSantis is a well-known personality among conservatives for taking the lead on culture war affairs. The highlights of his tenancy as a governor were his non-acceptance of pandemic-related health restrictions, the passage of a law restricting discussion of LGBTQ issues in schools, and a quarrel with Walt Disney above the law.
Elon Musk had requested Americans to elect a Republican Congress in the US primary elections earlier this month, but the Republicans couldn’t secure control of the Senate as the Democrats gained control of the Senate with a high majority in the House of Representatives.
Elon Musk also said that the Twitter ban on Trump after the Capitol attack on 6th January 2021 was a “grave mistake.” Former President Donald Trump’s Twitter handle was restored recently after Elon Musk ran a vote in which users closely supported the decision.
Trump was permanently restricted from the social media platform by Twitter’s earlier management in January 2021, just a few days after pro-Trump supporters at the US Capitol tried to mutiny. Trump’s supporters attacked the Capitol after the US Congress tried to clear Biden’s victory in the presidential election of 2020.
Musk said in a Tweet, “I’m fine with Trump not tweeting. The important thing is that Twitter corrected a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service. Deplatforming, a sitting President, undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America.”
Although Trump said he had no enthusiasm for returning to Twitter, he said he would be on his own social media platform, Truth Social. It was developed by Trump Media & Technology Group.
