Naomi Biden, President Joe Biden’s granddaughter, and Peter Neal will tie the knot on the South Lawn very soon, marking the 19th wedding in White House history. According to the White House Historical Association, it will be the first wedding with a president’s granddaughter as the bride, as well as the first in that location.

Naomi Biden, 28, is a lawyer, and Peter Neal, 24, is a law student. Naomi and Neal met through a mutual friend in New York City about four years ago, and the White House stated that they have been together ever since.

“Peter and I are endlessly grateful to my Nana and Pop for the opportunity to celebrate our wedding at the White House,” tweeted Naomi. “We can’t wait to make our commitment to one another official and for what lies ahead.”

Naomi Biden is the daughter of Hunter and Kathleen Buhle.

Jill Biden, the first lady, expressed her delight at seeing her granddaughter “planning her wedding, making her choices, becoming, you know, just coming into her own, and she’s just so beautiful.”

“So I can’t wait till all of you see her as a bride,” the first lady said during a recent interview.

Out of the 18 recorded White House weddings, 9 were for a president’s daughter, with Richard Nixon‘s daughter, Tricia’s wedding being the most recent one, in 1971, and Lyndon B. Johnson’s daughter, Lynda’s wedding, in 1967. However, there have been weddings there for nieces, a grandniece, a son, and the first ladies’ siblings. While in office, Grover Cleveland married there as well.

In June 1971, 400 guests watched as President Nixon walked his daughter Tricia down the South Portico steps to meet Edward Cox. Her wedding cake was a six-tiered, 350-pound (159-kilogram) lemon-flavored pound cake that stood 6-foot-tall (1.8 meters) and was decorated with blown sugar love birds.

Lucy Payne Washington and Thomas Todd’s wedding was the first to be held in the White House. The bride was Dolley Madison’s sister, and the ceremony was most likely held in the Blue Room.
