Former President Donald Trump was faced with backlash after he hosted White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and rapper Kanye West at his Mar-a-Lago estate this week, demonstrating what some Republicans have called his “lack of judgment” in associating with figures with well-publicized antisemitic views as he prepares to run for President again.
Fuentes was a guest of West, who attended the dinner with Karen Giorno, who ran Trump’s 2016 Florida campaign, and another unidentified man, according to a source. For about two hours, the group dined on a Thanksgiving dinner at Trump’s outdoor patio table.
Kanye West, who legally had his name changed to Ye recently, tweeted a video on Thursday claiming that Trump is “really impressed with Fuentes,” who frequently promotes racist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. He was seen with Ye at Mar-a-Lago, but reports incorrectly stated that he did not sit down for dinner with the former president.
West claimed in the Twitter video that Fuentes “is actually a loyalist” to Trump, in contrast to others who he claims abandoned the former president after the 2020 election.
Some Republicans slammed former president Trump on Sunday for dining with the white supremacist at his waterfront Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Brah, Florida, despite him claiming claim that the meeting was unintentional.
Asa Hutchinson, the Republican governor of Arkansas, accused Trump of empowering extremism. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for a leader who’s setting an example for the country or the party to meet with an avowed racist or anti-Semite,” Hutchinson was reported saying.
Republican Representative James Comer of Kentucky said Trump needed “better judgment on who he dines with.” “I would not take a meeting with that person,” Comer said in an interview with NBC News.
Donald Trump appeared to indicate that he did not know who Nick Fuentes was. Following the meeting, the former president in a message on his Truth Social media site said he met with Ye and they “got along great, he expressed no anti-Semitism, & I appreciated all of the nice things he said about me on ‘Tucker Carlson.’”
Why wouldn’t I agree to meet? Also, I didn’t know Nick Fuentes,” read his post further.
