Joe Biden denies any knowledge of FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago

US President Joe Biden has finally broken silence over the raid at former president Donald Trump’s private estate Mar-a-Lago at Palm Beach in Florida. The FBI raided the former president’s home on August 8th, which led to the seizure of more than 300 classified documents relating to top national agencies in the USA.

“I didn’t have any advance notice”- Joe Biden breaks silence on FBI raid

While concluding his speech on his decision to waive student loan debt, a journalist asked President Joe Biden about the raid at Mar-a-Lago. Mr. Biden denied that he had any prior knowledge of the FBI’s intention, saying, “”I didn’t have any advance notice. None, zero. Not one single bit. Thank you.”

A White House spokeswoman named Karine Jean-Pierre had already revealed a day after the raid, on August 9, that President Biden had not been intimated about the raid. “The President was not briefed, was not aware of it,” she said, adding that “no one at the White House was given a heads-up”.

About eleven sets of classified documents that contained more than 300 individual documents were seized by the FBI from the former President’s home during the raid a few weeks ago.

The initial batch of documents retrieved by the National Archives in January included more than 150 classified documents, prompting the FBI to execute a search warrant at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this month.

According to multiple sources, the federal government has recovered a total of 300 classified documents since Mr. Trump left the White House. Similarly, the fact that a large number of documents remained at his home for an extended period of time suggests that Mr Trump or his aides handled the information contained within them with carelessness.

GOP leaders targeted the left for the unprecedented raid at Donald Trump’s private estate. They launched attacks on US Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, adding their names to the growing list of political foes they intend to investigate if they retake the majority in the House this fall.

The latest additions join others who’ve purportedly offended the twice-impeached former president, ranging from members of the January 6 select committee investigating the deadly siege at the US Capitol to current President Joe Biden.

“Middle-Class Joe” relieves some of loan debt burden on students

President Biden announced on Wednesday that he will forgive up to $20,000 in Pell Grant debt for individuals earning less than $125,000 per year and couples earning less than $250,000 per year. Other student debt up to $10,000 will be forgiven for those who meet the same criteria.

For the final time, the President extended the moratorium on student loan payments. The moratorium, imposed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, will expire on December 31.

He also limited undergraduate loan repayment to 5% of monthly income. Under Biden’s new plan, an estimated 43 million borrowers will receive some form of relief, with nearly half of them having their debt completely erased.

President Biden recalled the days when he was a college student during his speech on Wednesday. In his opening remarks, he said that his father’s own struggle to pay for higher education bills for the US President informed his decision to grant the relief.

“My dad was like millions of parents all across the country,” said President Biden. “He believed, as I do, that an education was a ticket to a better life… but over time, that ticket has become too expensive,” he added.

According to the university’s website, Mr. Biden, 79, earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Delaware in 1965. According to the law school’s magazine, he received his Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University in New York in 1968.
