California Rep. Adam Schiff stated on Sunday that the Jan 6 House Select Committee’s final report is “close to putting down the pen and going to print”. “We’re going to get to a consensus on the report; we’re getting close,” Schiff said in an interview on Sunday.
Schiff also stated that the panel intends to release all evidence related to the Jan. 6 investigation, including “voluminous transcripts, documents, and emails.” “The country will have the evidence and our report.” He also stated that any “personally identifying information” will not be included in the final report.
Schiff’s comments come after the Washington Post reported on January 6 that committee staffers were upset with Vice Chair Liz Cheney‘s focus on former President Trump in the final report. The Democrat reacted to a Washington Post report alleging tensions between committee staffers and Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, the panel’s vice chair.
The Washington Post reported last week on Wednesday, citing interviews with 15 anonymous former and current committee staffers, that the staffers became enraged by Cheney’s efforts to focus the panel’s final report on former President Trump, believing it would leave out other key elements of the committee’s work.
“No, I mean – I certainly hope not,” Schiff said. “I would like to see our report be as broad and inclusive as possible. We are discussing as a committee among the members what belongs in the body of the report, what belongs in the appendices of the report, what is beyond the scope of our investigation, and we’ll reach those decisions in a collaborative manner.”
Responding to a statement from the Wyoming Republican Rep.’s spokesperson accusing staffers of attempting to insert “liberal biases” into the report, Schiff defended the committee saying, “I don’t think the back and forth is particularly helpful to the committee and I don’t want to engage in it. We’re gonna get to consensus on the report. We’re very close to that now. We’re close to putting down the pen.”
