Florida Governor and Republican Ron DeSantis have decided not to give up on Disney. He spoke during a campaign rally on 7th November 2022 in Hialeah, Florida. Ron DeSantis has been the talk of the town for a long time for participating in the presidential election of 2024. A spokeswoman who works for Ron DeSantis said that the reports were fake and that the Republican lawmakers who are serving on legislation to cut back a law rushed through earlier this year plundering Walt Disney of its special self-governing power in Central Florida.
Taryn Fenske tweeted on Friday, saying, “Fake news. @GovRonDeSantis doesn’t make ‘u-turns.” Former state Rep. Anthony Sabatini tweeted in response to Fenske’s Tweet calling it “sad to see weak-kneed GOP politicians get overpowered on this.”
At the time of a special session that was originally called to pass a redistricting agenda, DeSantis governed lawmakers to add two disciplinary Disney-related measures after the entertainment company stood against a controversial new law, called by opponents as the “don’t say gay” bill, that limits education about gender specification and sexual orientation in public schools. Lawmakers verified a plan to abolish the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which was built in 1967 and encloses 38.5 miles in Osceola and Orange counties, including the “the most magical place on earth.”
The district has power over such matters as land use and traditional work of government encompassing fire protection and wastewater services. DeSantis signed this plan in April, which would break down the Reedy Creek district and five other districts all over the state on 1st June 2023, although it would let the Legislature accommodate the districts before then.
Financial Times and Reuters on Friday announced that changes in Disney leadership encouraged the Republican lawmakers in Florida to think about changing the law. Fenske didn’t instantly respond when he was asked if the Florida governor would be in favor of changing the law.
He tweeted echoed comments that DeSantis made in a visit on FOX News Tuesday. Ron DeSantis said “they brought this upon themselves. … All we did was stand up for what was right,” DeSantis further said, “And yes, they’re a big, powerful company, but you know what? We stand up for our folks, and I don’t care what a Burbank-based California company says about our laws.”
Ron made his remarks after Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Company, told staff members that he was sorry to see them involved into that battle.
