At a rally held on Monday, 7th November, US President Joe Biden made yet another entry onto his long list of gaffes, when he appeared to have forgotten the name of the candidate whom he was rallying for.
At the Monday rally held at the Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, the 79 year old president was campaigning for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wes Moore. Halfway through his speech, the president appeared to have forgotten the name of the candidate he was rallying for.
“And, of course, you got that next governor. What’s his name?” said the US President, trailing off saying “Wes… Wes….”. At this point, many in the audience could be seen holding up signs that read ‘Wes Moore’ as though they were trying to help Mr. Biden out.
“Wes Moore!” exclaimed the US president, probably after reading one of the signs, and added, “The guy’s the real deal, man.”
“He’s a combat veteran and a Rhodes Scholar. I’ve always worried about Rhodes scholars, though. They’re so damn smart. I wonder about it, you know?” he added further.
Moore is running against Republican candidate Dan Cox for the position of Maryland’s next governor to succeed Larry Hogan. Former President Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, and talk-show host Oprah Winfrey have all endorsed him.
Towards the start of his speech, President Biden told the audience that they were “just as smart” and “just as bright,” even though they do not have the facilities that the other schools are endowed with.
“You’re just as good as any college in America,” he added further, and revealed that the federal government had put aside nearly $6 billion for historically black colleges and universities.
Previous Gaffes by President Biden
This is not the first time Mr. Biden has made such blunders.
During the US midterm elections, US President Joe Biden stumbled and fumbled on stage while delivering a speech at a rally for New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Sunday, November 6.
As he was tripping onstage, Mr. Biden was heard saying, “Oops, stepping on a – hmm – it’s black. Anyway,” This was shortly after the US President’s pledge speech, in which he stated that “no more drilling” would take place in the US.
Biden claimed in 2020 that he negotiated a climate deal with long-dead Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. “One of the things I’m proudest of is getting passed, getting moved, getting in control of the Paris Climate Accord, I’m the guy who came back after meeting with Deng Xiaoping and making the case that I believe China will join if we put pressure on them. We got almost 200 nations to join,” he said.
Mr. Biden has also referred to US Vice President Kamala Harris as the ‘President’ on several occasions, the most recent one being on Diwali celebration earlier this year.
On another occasion, the Democrat president attempted to describe the United States of America in a single word, but that word came out something like “Asufutimaehaehfutbw.”
