Former President Donald Trump on Sunday called for the US Constitution to be repealed and said that the 2020 presidential election was a “massive fraud.” Former president Trump made the claim on his Truth Social media platform, where he recently announced his candidacy for the 2024 elections.
This comes just weeks after Democrats reclaimed control of the Senate after a slew of Republican candidates backed by Trump were defeated in both Senate and House races, fueling even more election denial.
Donald Trump’s post also follows the release of internal Twitter emails revealing 2020 deliberation over a New York Post story about material discovered on President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden’s laptop.
“A massive fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” former president Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social media platform. The Republican also accused “Big Tech” of working closely with Democrats.
According to reports, Incoming House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries described the former president’s statement as strange and extreme, and said that Republicans will have to decide whether to continue embracing his anti-democratic views.
“Republicans are going to have to work out their issues with the former president and decide whether they’re going to break from him and return to some semblance of reasonableness or continue to lean into the extremism, not just of Trump, but Trumpism,” said Jeffries as quoted by The Associated Press.
Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden by over seven million votes and 306-232 in the electoral college. However, the former president still continues to claim that Joe Biden won key states through electoral fraud, an allegation that sparked the deadly attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Republican Liz Cheney of Wyoming, vice chair of the House select committee investigating the US Capitol attack, said in a Twitter post that no honest person can now deny that the former president is an enemy of the Constitution.
