A senior manager at Twitter has admitted that the company has a solid left-wing bias and that conservatives are routinely censored. Siru Murugesan was recorded as saying that the company culture is ‘commie as f**k’ and that employees ‘hate, hate, hate’ Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover.
He said the company does not believe in freedom of speech and even started turning him left-wing when he joined, in a shockingly candid conversation filmed over several encounters. His statement came amid a firestorm at Twitter, where employees fear that if the Tesla billionaire takes over, they will be fired or prevented from censoring certain content.
Musk has promised to make the platform safe for users to post whatever they want, and also ‘defeat the spam bots’ and ‘authenticate all humans.’ In the meantime, he fueled speculation that he might be trying to negotiate a lower price for the social media behemoth by saying at a Miami conference that a cheaper cost wouldn’t be “out of the question.”
‘Twitter does not believe in freedom of speech’
A female Project Veritas reporter filmed Murugesan leaking information on the tech giant’s leftist ideology, which included censoring right-wing posts. “Twitter does not believe in freedom of speech,” he said, adding that his coworkers despise’ Musk’s $44 billion takeover bid. “They despise it,” he explained.
“Oh my God. At the very least, I’m fine with it. However, some of my coworkers are supremely left, left, left, left. They’re like, ‘It would be my last day if this happens,” Murugesan said when asked how his coworkers reacted to the news of Musk’s buyout. Murugesan claimed that Twitter’s internal politics were so left-wing that they shaped and changed his own views. “I started to work at Twitter and moved to the left,” he explained.
What more did Murugesan say?
“I think it’s just like the environment, like you’re there and you become like this commie” Murugesan said. He also added that right-wingers were openly censored. “Ideologically, it does not make sense, because we’re actually censoring the right, and not the left,” he told the undercover reporter.
“So, everyone on the right-wing will be like, ‘bro, it’s okay to stay, just gotta tolerate it. The left will be like, no, I’m not gonna tolerate it. I need it censored or else I’m not gonna be on the platform. So, it does that on the right. It’s true. There is bias. It is what it is today,” said Murugesan.
Murugesan says ‘a lot has changed’
Since Musk began the takeover system on April 25, Murugesan said “a lot has changed.” Employees were concerned about their jobs, he said, because his companies operate differently than Twitter’s “socialist” environment. He said, “You understand, our jobs are on the line. He’s a capitalist, and we weren’t exactly capitalists; we were more socialist. As if we’re all f***ing commies.”
Critics predict an increase in hateful speech on the platform, while supporters say it is a significant step forward for free speech. “We did everything we could to fight back against it,” Murugesan said. A large number of employees protested. Elon Musk says the $44 billion Twitter agreement has been put on hold for now. According to Reuters, ‘But, in the end, the board members had the final say, and they acted in their own best interests to avoid being sued. Employees at Twitter warned of a ‘mass exodus’ the day Musk’s takeover was announced, April 25, with one participant at an ‘All Hands’ gathering explaining the country’s wealthiest man as ‘a person with questionable morals.’
