About Turning Point USA
Turning Point USA (TPUSA) or Turning Point is a non-profit organization in the United States that promotes Republican ideas in educational institutions. Charlie Kirk and Bill Montgomery started the group in 2012. In addition to Turning Point Endowment and Turning Point Action, TPUSA has two other organizations related to it: Turning Point Faith and Students for Trump.
PragerU is another important collaborator of the collective. TPU is currently the leading conservative organization on college campuses. A well-known feature of TPUSA is its Professors Watchlist, a database of faculty members with whom the group alleges they engage in anti-conservative bias and spread leftist propaganda. A report says that TPUSA tried to change student council votes to stop liberal ideas from spreading on school and college campuses.
TPUSA launched the School Board Watchlist website in 2021
The Teen Student Action Summit, the Young Women’s Leadership Summit, the Young Black Leadership Summit, Americafest, and the Young Latino Leadership Summit are just a few of the yearly conferences hosted by TPUSA. Conservative philanthropists and charities, especially those with ties to the Republican Party, give money to the group.
A few words about the founders
Activist Charlie Kirk belongs to the Republican Party. When Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Lara Trump appeared on Fox News in October 2016, the program had a pro-Donald Trump vibe. TurningPoint personnel said on Twitter that students who attended the event would be reimbursed for their travel costs.
Turning Point disputes the claim that the group may have broken its tax-exempt status, which tax experts have made.
In January 2019, Charlie Kirk was named the CEO of Students for Trump. In 2020, he gave the opening speech at the Republican National Convention. In that speech, he called President Donald Trump, the defender of Western civilization.
Montgomery, a marketing entrepreneur and former Tea Party member founded Turning Point in 2012 with Kirk’s help and functioned as its secretary and treasurer until the end of the year. In July 2020, Montgomery died as a consequence of difficulties with COVID-19.
In 2017, Bowyer was appointed COO of the firm. In 2012, he received a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University. Before entering TPU in 2015, he served as the Republican Party of Maricopa County’s chairman for two years. He also heads the Students for Trump. Latter-day Saints for Trump was launched in August 2020, and he is a Latter-day Saint follower and part of the church.
TPUSA’s Significant Achievements
When Charlie Kirk graduated high school in June 2012, he formed the non-profit organization Turning Point USA. As Kirk’s mentor, Montgomery handled the foundation’s papers beneath the shadows. Although neither the organization nor Kirk recognized Montgomery’s claim to be a co-founding member, he referred to himself as such frequently. While attending the RNC 2012, Kirk had the opportunity to meet Republican benefactor Foster Friess, who agreed to provide funding for the group. Ginni Thomas, the wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, also sits on the executive panel of the group, which includes Friess. The Independent Petroleum Association of America’s Barry Russell, president, and CEO is also a major advisor.
The group raised more than $8.2 million between July 2016 and June 2017. It was also revealed in the same year that the organization had given thousands of dollars to student governments. Individual supporters for TPUSA include Bernard Marcus and Bruce Rauner.
