Former President Donald Trump’s brand new ‘free speech’ social media platform, Truth Social, has topped the charts on the Apple app store, surpassing Twitter and Tik Tok. Tesla CEO Elon Musk who is all set to acquire full control over Twitter in a few months tweeted the news from his Twitter handle, which read, “Truth Social is currently beating Twitter & TikTok on the Apple Store.”
Truth Social is a brand new social media platform launched by former U.S president, Donald Trump’s tech firm, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) launched in February this year. The app was launched in response to the ban imposed on the former president by the Big Tech platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube in January 2022 following the attack on the Capitol building by Trump supporters.
The Truth Social platform attempts to promote free speech and, in Trump’s own words, “cancel cancel-culture”. The app targets those who feel that their opinions and views are suppressed on other platforms. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who resigned from the Congress, is currently serving as the CEO of the social media platform.
According to reports, Truth Social was ranked 52nd on the chart prior to the transaction between Elon Musk and Twitter, which was ranked 39th at the time. Former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social downloads saw an increase of 150 per cent from April 18 to April 25, reaching 75,000 downloads for the week. Trump’s Truth Social has been downloaded nearly 1.4 million times since its release in February of this year.
Trump says he won’t be joining “boring Twitter”
Conservatives have raised their voices in support of bringing back banned Republicans back to Twitter, and the most distinct and clearly heard was to bring former president Donald Trump back by reinstating his Twitter account. Several of them took to Twitter itself to call upon Elon Musk to bring the ex-president back.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted to bring several Republicans back to Twitter. “Bring back President Trump. Bring back my personal account. Bring back Dr. Robert Malone. Bring back Alex Jones. Bring back Milo Yiannopoulos. Bring back the cancelled nation. Bring back freedom of speech. Bring back America!” -she wrote on Wednesday.
Even though the support to bring the former president back to Twitter has been enormous, Donald Trump has simply refused to come back. Former President Donald Trump has decided not to re-join Twitter, despite Elon Musk’s takeover. The Bluebird company has become “too boring” according to the ex-president. He will stick to his own social media platform, Truth Social, that has recently been launched in February.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth” -he added.
“I want everybody to come over to TRUTH — conservatives, liberals, whatever,” Trump said further in the statement. “The response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter.”
Big tech social media company Twitter finalised a takeover deal with Tesla CEO Elon Musk a few days back, at a final price of a whopping $44 billion dollars. This boils down the per share price to $54.20. This is one of the world’s biggest deals in the world of technology, passing over the entire control over the Bluebird company to Elon Musk.
