Mike Lindell will run for RNC chair

Mike Lindell will run for RNC chair

Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow and Donald Trump supporter, also known as the “MyPillow Guy,” announced his intention to run for chairman of the Republican National Committee on Monday. “With all due diligence and in prayer, I am 100% running for RNC chairman against Ronna McDaniel,” Lindell said on his podcast with former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon.

Mike Lindell, who is currently under federal investigation for election tampering and recently also had his phone seized by the FBI in September, claims that people all over the country have encouraged him to run for the position.

“I’m all in … and one of the things that one of the big donors said to me, he said, Mike, everybody wants you to be head of the RNC, some of them just don’t know it yet,” Lindell said on the podcast.

“I didn’t hear one negative from donors. … I’m all in and not only am I going to win, but it’s going to change real fast. We’re going to get our country righted really quick,” he added.

Lindell has been threatening McDaniel with a run since the GOP’s underwhelming performance in the midterm elections earlier this month, in which they narrowly won control of the House but failed to reclaim control of the Senate.

Lindell, a Trump supporter and 2020 election denier, said in an interview that he has not discussed his decision to run with the former president. “I did not call him and say, ‘What do you think about this?'” he said. “This is my decision.” Lindell, who has repeatedly promoted former president Trump’s claims of election fraud, stated that “all of this country needs to look into the integrity of the elections.”

McDaniel, who was Trump’s choice to lead the committee following the 2016 election, was elected chair in 2017. The next RNC chair term will be held through the 2024 presidential elections.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for McDaniel’s re-election campaign stated that over 100 voting members of the RNC have already pledged to support her bid, easily exceeding the majority McDaniel would need to secure another term.

Lindell, who attended former President Donald Trump‘s 2024 presidential campaign launch earlier this month at Mar-a-Lago, is not among the RNC’s 168 members.

The McDaniel campaign also stated that Reince Priebus, the RNC’s chair from 2011 to 2017, sent a letter to the organization’s members endorsing McDaniel for a second term.
