British intelligence services have contracted with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host classified documents as part of an agreement to strengthen the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) for espionage, reveals the Financial Times.
GCHQ has supported this use of AWS’s high-security cloud system by its sister services MI5 and MI6, as well as by other government departments such as the Ministry of Defense in joint operations.
