Ever since Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s takeover deal worth $44 billion dollars with big tech Twitter got confirmed, the conservatives have been pushing Musk to reinstate several of the Republican leaders who were banned from the social media site in the past few years.
Conservatives have pointed out that Twitter is biased because it suppressed news about Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 election and has de-platformed several prominent conservatives, including former President Donald Trump.
The Tesla CEO has promised to revamp the platform in order to emphasise free speech, which he believes is essential to a functioning democracy. Conservatives hope that his takeover will nudge other social media behemoths to censor less content in order to stay relevant.
“Bring back Trump!”
Conservatives have raised their voices in support of bringing back banned Republicans back to Twitter, and the most distinct and clearly heard was to bring former president Donald Trump back by reinstating his Twitter account. Several of them took to Twitter itself to call upon Elon Musk to bring the ex-president back.
“Now that @ElonMusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, it’s time to lift the political censorship,” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), recently tweeted. “Oh… and BRING BACK TRUMP!” -she added.
“Elon Musk has officially bought Twitter in a $44 billion deal. Bring back President Donald J. Trump and let’s Make Twitter Great Again!” -tweeted North Carolina Representative candidate, Bo Hines.
Another candidate from California, Errol Weber tweeted, “Hey Elon, 1st order of business: Bring Trump Back on Twitter!”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted to bring back several Republicans back to Twitter. “Bring back President Trump. Bring back my personal account. Bring back Dr. Robert Malone. Bring back Alex Jones. Bring back Milo Yiannopoulos. Bring back the cancelled nation. Bring back freedom of speech. Bring back America!” -she wrote on Wednesday.
Trump says he won’t be joining “boring Twitter”
Even though the support to bring the former president back to Twitter has been enormous, Donald Trump has simply refused to come back. Former President Donald Trump has decided not to re-join Twitter, despite Elon Musk’s takeover. The Bluebird company has become “too boring” according to the ex-president. He will stick to his own social media platform, Truth Social, which has recently been launched in February.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth” -he added.
“I want everybody to come over to TRUTH — conservatives, liberals, whatever,” Trump said further in the statement. “The response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter.”
