DeSantis keeps ‘ignoring Trump’ as he starts the 2024 campaign

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis implored his followers to “chill out” not too soon after he grabbed everyone’s attention. Ron DeSantis has been recently reelected the governor and basking in support from primary players in the Republican election race after his nearly 20-point victory against his opponent, former governor Charlie Crist. A raft of votes shows Ron DeSantis is leading ahead of Trump and beating Trump in hypothetical matchups if the midterms were held.

As the GOP primary election is still more than a year away, DeSantis and his team are undoubtedly doing great. The Republicans who were in touch with DeSantis’s team told Yahoo News when he was deciding whether he would run for president or not. One of the Republicans said that “He is playing this right by ignoring Trump.”

Till now, it has seemed to work. Trump arranged his formal campaign launch with continuous strikes on Ron DeSantis, even warning to open up potentially damaging information about the governor and also included his wife’s name.

After Trump launched his formal campaign, he stopped attacking DeSantis. Pageantry, which is what Trump is very famous for, has fully fulfilled its motive for now, and DeSantis has played it correctly by dodging Trump’s repeated strikes.

Trump’s advisor said about Ron DeSantis that “He is playing a couple of dimensions of chess right now.” His adviser added that it’s not only Donald Trump who other Republicans are hopeful of viewing before concluding whether to involve but DeSantis as well.

Trump received a lot of attention on everything from the Justice Department’s declaration of a new special counsel to look into the investigation into his role on January 6, 2021, after he launched his campaign. Besides, also the insurgence and his taking of highly sensitive classified documents from the White House to his current dinner with one of the nation’s well-known white supremacists Nick Fuentes. The Republicans criticized the event, and DeSantis also commented on the incident.

Former Vice President Mike Pence scored dozens of interviews and looked at his memoir on the same day when Donald Trump launched his campaign. His interviews were marked at No.2 on the New York Times best seller catalog.

Dan Eberhart, a long-term serving GOP donor, and CEO of the oil field services company Canary, said, “No one is going to push all their chips in on one candidate this far out. “The early polls don’t mean anything, and there’s a long bumpy road to go before we know who is a contender and who’s a chump.”

DeSantis is all set to look at a special session of the Florida Legislature in the upcoming weeks to work on Florida’s homeowners’ insurance norms after Hurricane Ian hit Florida. At the same time, he is also hoping to host a retreat for the upcoming viable campaign donors, according to the three Republicans who are in contact with his tight-knit political operation.

Trump’s mentors have pushed DeSantis to wait four years and run again in 2028 on the prediction that Trump would either not take part in the presidential election a fourth time or would leave the office at the end of the second term, as written in the constitution of the U.S.

Kellyanne Conway, a longtime Trump advisor, said at the Christian Science Monitor’s Monitor Breakfast before the midterm elections took place, “Why not go be the best two-term governor of the third-largest state in modern history and then walk into the presidency in 2028?”

As of now, DeSantis has no pressure to declare his decision but expects to announce his decision in no time.
